For soprano and organ
This piece is based on
Psalm 22. The text is essentially a
summation of the passage rather than a
direct quote, though actual phrases from the text are used.
There is no time
signature, no barlines,
and no absolute note lengths. Rather, duration of the notes is
approximated by a line that extends from each
note.
It is up to the performers to
coordinate phrases in such a way that the music
flows properly for the occasion
on which they are performing. This requires constant communication
between the
organist and vocalist.
